A witness is someone who has personal proof of something taking place. They have either seen an event happen or had a personal experience.
Witnesses are used in court proceedings to prove a case.
The earthly court system in America is modeled after the heavenly court system. We have a judge, God the Father, a mediator, Jesus the Son, and a lawyer and witness, the Holy Spirit.
Job was a man who walked with God before Jesus became a man and before Jesus left us the Holy Spirit.
Job didn’t have the court system that we have now with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Job didn’t have a mediator or a witness.
Job 9:33-34 says, “If only there were a mediator between us (me and God), someone who could bring us together. The mediator could make God stop beating me.”
A mediator is one who intervenes between two, either to make or restore peace and friendship, or form a covenant.
THANK GOD, WE HAVE A MEDIATOR IN THE DAYS THAT WE LIVE IN.
1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
Jesus is our mediator. He intervenes on our behalf to God the Father.
When Jesus died and transfigured back to Heaven, he left his Holy Spirit with us as our protector (John 16:7).
The Holy Spirit has many roles in protecting us. Here are some of his roles:
Comforter: He comforts us when we need consoled. (John 14:16)
Counsel (Lawyer): He has wisdom and understanding from Jesus and God the Father (Isaiah 11:2). He knows the truth and relays it on our behalf (John 15:26)
Convicter: He convicts us of our sins in order to guide us in truth and repentance (John 16:7-11)
Revealer: He reveals and guides us into truth. He gives us discernment (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Indwells: He lives within us and is always with us (Romans 8:9-11).
Intercessor: When we are too weak to pray, he prays for us (Romans 8:26).
Guide: He guides us in all truth (John 16:13).
Teacher: He teaches us what we do not know (John 14:26).
Witness: He is a witness that we are the children of God and works on our behalf (Romans 8:16).
Warrantor: He gives us a warranty. He puts a seal of God on us that says, “I stand by him/her! They belong to God! I heard him/her repent and I testify that they love God with all their heart.” (2 Corinthians 1:22).
If the Holy Spirit does all of these things for us, why do we often try to do them without his help? When we take on these roles ourselves or turn to others, we are out of the will of God.
We must learn to relinquish our rights to the Holy Spirit and let him do the perfect work within us.
Can I get a witness?
